Keku Bomi Gazder is currently at the helm of affairs as chief executive officer of AAI Cargo Logistics and Allied Services Company Limited (AAICLAS), a fully owned subsidiary of the Airports Authority of India (AAI) and one of the largest air cargo logistics infrastructure companies in the country. With three decades of experience in the aviation industry, he is looking to transform AAICLAS from a socio-economically-focused set-up to a customer-focused commercial organisation.
Gazder has strengthened business and expanded air cargo operations of AAI-operated airports through a continuous process of infrastructure updates. In addition, he has been successful in finding new business verticals for AAICLAS and has been instrumental in augmenting air cargo terminal infrastructure at Guwahati, Surat, Aurangabad, Bhopal and Lucknow, among others.
In his current position, Gazder enjoys the privilege of being part of many think tanks, business forums and committees, not only in the Ministry of Civil Aviation and with stakeholders of the aviation fraternity, but also in other ministries such as the Ministry of Commerce and Industry and the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare.
Gazder sees monumental scope for growth in AAICLAS, as air cargo amounts to roughly only 2 per cent of the country’s entire cargo movement. He has always been a turnaround specialist with a focus on lean management. He rose to his present position by learning the nuances of the air cargo industry, beginning as a sales executive and gradually rising to the position of regional director, successfully setting up regional headquarters for three airlines in Dubai, Sharjah and Chennai. Over the course of his career, he has worked in more than half a dozen aviation companies, notable among which are Martinair Cargo NV, Air France-KLM and Saudi Arabian Airlines. He has experience of working in the Levant, the Middle East, the Arabian Gulf and the Indian subcontinent.
His soft-spoken nature along with a humanistic approach and inclusive management style often lands him with far more responsibilities than can be managed with the resources at his disposal. Nevertheless, being a leader and an ethics-based strategic thinker, he continues to produce results and inspire people with his passion and drive.
Gazder is an economics graduate from Loyola College, Chennai, and a postgraduate in financial management and research from the Institute of Financial Management and Research, Chennai. He is an avid reader, social thinker and a silent philanthropist.
