JICA signed an ODA loan agreement worth Rs 18.64 billion (Yen 29.08 billion) with the Government of India for the Nag river pollution abatement project on March 27, 2020. The annual interest rate for the project and consultancy services is 0.95 per cent and 0.01 per cent respectively. The repayment period is 30 years, while the grace period is 10 years. The project involves rejuvenation of the Nag and Pili rivers in Maharashtra by laying of sewage lines of 1,362.5 km in the north and central sewage zones; construction of three new sewage treatment plants (STPs) with a total capacity 72 million litres per day (mld) at Shankar Nagar, Morbhavan bus stand and Martin Nagar. Three existing STPs at Mokshadham, Mankapur and NIT will be incorporated into the project and storm water will also be filtered before being let into the two rivers.
