Government weighs Rs 100 billion rescue plan for the aviation sector after coronavirus

According to sources, the Ministry of Finance is mulling over a proposal that includes temporary suspension of most of the taxes levied on the aviation sector, including a deferment of the aviation fuel tax. The planned rescue package is likely to be worth Rs 100 billion-Rs 120 billion, and will be aimed at providing some respite to the aviation sector, one of the hardest hit by the COVID-19 pandemic. Globally, airlines may need a bailout of more than $200 billion, as per International Air Transport Association estimates.
