The Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) has allocated funds worth Rs 250 million for the Thane light rail transit (LRT) project under its 2020-21 budget on March 11, 2020. The DPR for the project has been prepared. It involves the development of a 29 km LRT network that will run as a ring route in Thane district in Maharashtra. It will be implemented by Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Limited on behalf of TMC. Of the total 29 km route, about 2.2 km will be underground and the remaining will be elevated. In all, 22 stations have been proposed on the route.
