Gujarat State Electricity Corporation Limited (GSECL) has completed the pilot operation of the 500 MW unit of its Ukai coal-based power project at 40 per cent capacity during a recently conducted low-load test run. The test run was conducted as part of a pilot project implemented under the United States Agency for International Development’s Greening the Grid – Renewable Integration and Sustainable Energy initiative in partnership with GSECL and Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited. GSECL will now plan its fleet-wide strategy for 5,000 MW of thermal power capacity to gear up for flexible operations to support renewable energy integration.
