The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has proposed a draft scheme for the supply of round-the-clock (RTC) power from renewable energy projects, complemented with power from coal-based thermal power plants (TPPs). The MNRE has proposed a concept of “reverse bundling” wherein high-cost thermal power will be bundled with cheaper renewable energy and provided to discoms on an RTC basis. According to the draft scheme, a generator has to supply at least 51 per cent of the annual energy from renewable energy and the balance from thermal sources.
