Centre allows all telcos and vendors to participate in 5G trials

The government has allowed all telecom service providers and technology vendors including China-based Huawei and ZTE to participate in 5G trials. At present, the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) is working on further modalities. Meanwhile, telecom operators have been reportedly directed to apply afresh for 5G spectrum trials. Spectrum will be allotted upon approval of their applications for a period of six months. However, the government has not specified the quantum of airwaves that will be allotted.
