Central government relaxes deadline for FASTag

Reportedly, the central government has relaxed its rules for the roll-out of the mandatory FASTag mechanism of making payments at national highways, allowing more hybrid lanes to accept cash payments instead of the previous directive that limited it to one. NHAI has been allowed to convert not more than 25 per cent of the booths in a toll plaza into hybrid lanes. The authority has cited a shortage of FASTags for new users as the reason for the move. The relaxation will provide a 45-day extension to the deadline of December 15, 2019.
