Approval granted for semi-high speed rail project in Kerala

The Ministry of Railways (MoR) granted in-principle approval for implementation of the Kerala semi-high speed rail corridor project (Silver Line) on December 17, 2019. The project, which is being implemented by Kerala Railway Development Corporation Limited, involves the construction of the 540 km long third and fourth rail lines between Thiruvananthapuram and Kasaragod at an estimated cost of Rs 660.79 billion. The project is likely to be funded by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and has been included in JICA’s overseas development assistance rolling plan.
