The Koyambedu tertiary treatment plant project was commissioned on November 29, 2019. The project involved the construction of a 45 million litre per day (mld) tertiary treatment and reverse osmosis plant at Koyambedu in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, including the laying of a 60 km transmission main for conveying product water to various industries situated at Irungattukottai, Sriperumbudur and Oragadam, at an estimated cost of Rs 4.86 billion. The plant is expected to reduce biochemical oxygen demand and chemical oxygen demand in the sewage to almost nil, a requisite for it to be used in industries.
