The Chennai Port Trust has increased tariff rates by 36 per cent in stevedoring; 15-30 per cent in wharfage, storage and vessel-related charges, and about 50 per cent in demurrage. The increase in tariff rates has made the port uncompetitive as compared to its neighbouring ports of Kamarajar, Kattupalli and Krishnapatnam. However, as per the port authorities, the tariff rates have been revised in consultation with all the stakeholders.
