CMWSSB inaugurated the first tertiary treatment facility in the city

The Chennai Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board in Tamil Nadu inaugurated the first tertiary treatment reverse osmosis plant at Kodungaiyur in north Chennai on October 2, 2019, taking a major step to reduce the fresh water supplied to industries. This has made Chennai the first Indian city to recycle sewage to supply water to industries. The Rs 3.48 billion plant has a capacity to treat 45 million litres per day of sewage. It will send recycled water to industries at Manali, Minjur and Ennore. The plant is expected to provide industries with good quality water and help decrease the burden on groundwater sources.
