Tata Power and The Rockefeller Foundation to set up 10,000 microgrids by 2026

Tata Power and The Rockefeller Foundation have created an arm, Tata Power Renewable Microgrids Limited, to set up 10,000 microgrids across India through 2026. By scaling up an innovative microgrid model to be implemented in collaboration with Smart Power India (SPI) and the Institute for Transformative Technologies, TP Renewable Microgrids aims to provide clean power to nearly 5 million households and serve as a model for expanding access to more than 800 million people who are without power worldwide. The initiative is expected to assist the central government’s ongoing campaign to provide electricity to rural areas by exploiting the potential of renewable microgrids to serve households that face poor reliability of and coverage by traditional grid-based power. TP Renewable Microgrids will be operated and managed by Tata Power.
