The Maharashtra forest department allotted 53 hectares of land for the Surya regional bulk water supply scheme (WSS) on October 30, 2019. The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority is implementing the regional WSS for meeting the water requirements of the Vasai-Virar City Municipal Corporation and the Mira Bhayandar Municipal Corporation including rental housing complexes and 27 villages located in the western subregion of the Mumbai metropolitan region. The main source of water supply will be the Surya river and about 403 mld of water will be supplied to these areas as part of the scheme.
