KSIIDC signs MoU with AAI for Kalaburagi airport

The Karnataka State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation signed an MoU with the Airports Authority of India (AAI) for the development, operations and maintenance of Kalaburagi airport on August 24, 2019. With this, the long-delayed operations at the airport will commence. Gulbarga Airport Developers Private Limited – a consortium of Maytas Infra Limited, NCC Infra Holdings and VIE India – had commenced work on the airport in 2007 on a PPP basis. An amount of Rs 250 million was spent on its development; however, the contract was later terminated as the company could not complete the work. Post this, the state government took over the work and completed the airport at a cost of Rs 1.81 billion, excluding the cost of acquiring 724 acres of land.
