AERA to continue regulating non-major PPP airports

The Airports Economic Regulatory Authority (AERA) will continue to regulate airports being managed by private players or on a public-private partnership (PPP) model even if they are not major airports. The clarification was given to allay the fears of private developers after the approval of the AERA Amendment Act as per which the threshold to qualify as a major airport has been raised to 3.5 million passengers per annum (mppa), thereby reducing the ambit of AERA.
