CCEA approves Dibang HEP

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) has approved NHPC Limited’s 2,880 MW Dibang multi-purpose project in Arunachal Pradesh. The CCEA approved the expenditure of Rs 16 billion on pre-investment activities and granted various clearances for the project. The estimated cost of the project is Rs 280.8 billion, including interest during construction and financing charges of Rs 39.75 billion (at June 2018 price levels). The estimated completion period for the project will be nine years from receipt of government sanction. The proposed project will produce 11,223 MUs of energy in a 90 per cent dependable year. Once completed, it will be the largest hydroelectric project in the country. The dam, at 278 metres, will be the highest in India. Except forest clearance (Stage Il), the project has all statutory clearances – techno-economical clearance, environment clearance, forest clearance (Stage l) and defence clearance – for seeking investment sanction from the central government.
