NECL commences development of Machilipatnam port in Andhra Pradesh

Navayuga Engineering Company Limited (NECL) has commenced the development of Machilipatnam port in Andhra Pradesh. The foundation stone for the greenfield, all-weather, multi-purpose port was laid by the Andhra Pradesh government.

Located on the Bay of Bengal coast in Krishna district, the deep water seaport is one of the most ambitious projects planned under the Sagarmala programme. Spread across 4,800 acres, the first phase of the project is expected to be completed and operationalised within 18 months. On completion of Phase I, the port will have a capacity of 40 million tonnes (mt). Once both the phases are completed, it will be capable of handling 150 mt.

Being strategically located, Machilipatnam port will serve as a gateway for most international trading activities of central India.
