The public works department (PWD) of Delhi has proposed the construction of Phase IV of the Barapullah elevated road. Under this phase, the elevated road will be extended from INA Market to the Army Hospital in Delhi cantonment on NH-8. It will span a length of 7 km, of which 4.5 km will run along the railway track that has stations at Sarojini Nagar, Chanakyapuri and Safdarjung. The corridor will cross Safdarjung airport and Dhaula Kuan before terminating at the Army Hospital on NH-8. It is estimated to cost Rs 3 billion and is expected to be completed within one year from the commencement of construction. Currently, feasibility tests for the project are in progress. Meanwhile, Phase III of the project, stretching from Sarai Kale Khan to Mayur Vihar I, is under construction and has been facing delays on account of issues being faced in the acquisition of almost 9 acres of land in the eco-sensitive Yamuna floodplain for building pillars.
