ITD Cementation India Limited won a contract worth Rs 6.16 billion for the construction of tunnels T9 (from km 27.58 to km 28.14) and T10 (from km 28.19 to km 33.31 for the Sevoke-Rangpo new line project on May 23, 2019. The project involves laying of a 44.96 km long new rail line between Sevoke (West Bengal) and Rangpo (West Bengal-Sikkim border) at a total investment of Rs 40.84 billion. Meanwhile, BHEL won a contract for supplying 25 type WAG-7 broad gauge 5,000 HP AC electric locomotives with regenerative features on June 4, 2019. BHEL has successfully developed a regenerative system for retrofitment of locomotives to make them energy efficient. The system has the unique feature of utilising the kinetic energy of the train while in braking mode, which is converted into electrical energy and fed back to the electric grid through overhead electrification lines.
