The Tamil Nadu government is planning to introduce 500 electric buses in the cities of Chennai, Madurai and Coimbatore. The introduction of these buses will be part of the first phase of a government initiative that aims to introduce 2,000 electric buses along with 12,000 BS-VI-compliant buses. The state government had signed an agreement with C40 Cities Clean Bus Declaration of Intent team in 2018 that was aimed at reducing carbon emissions by operating electric buses.
