Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank signs loan agreement for Reach 6 of Bengaluru Metro, Phase II

The Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) signed an agreement with the central government to provide loans worth Rs 23 billion for the 13.92 km Dairy Circle-Nagawara underground section of Reach 6 of the Bengaluru metro, Phase II, on June 4, 2019. The funding is a soft loan which will be repaid over a period of 25 years. In addition, the European Investment Bank has also agreed to lend Rs 39 billion in two tranches for the project. Phase II of the Bengaluru metro rail project involves the construction of four extensions and two new lines covering a length of 72.09 km (13.79 km underground and 58.3 km elevated) at an investment of Rs 264.05 billion. The project is expected to be completed in 2024.
