PLF and installed capacity

The national plant load factor (PLF) registered a marginal improvement from 59.91 per cent in 2017-18 to 61.07 per cent in 2018-19. Across the central, state and private sectors, PLFs have been showing a decline since 2011-12.

The total installed power generation capacity stood at 356,100 MW as of March 2019. Thermal capacity had a share of 64 per cent followed by renewables, hydro and nuclear. In terms of sectors, the private sector dominated with a 46 per cent share.
