AERA hikes UDF at Bengaluru airport

The user development fee (UDF) levied on passengers at the Kempegowda international airport has been hiked by 120 per cent from Rs 139 to Rs 306 for domestic departures and from Rs 558 to Rs 1,226 for international departures starting April 16, 2019. The steep revision is based on the Airport Economic Regulatory Authority’s order that was issued on April 4, 2019, after the Telecom Disputes Settlement and Appellate Tribunal allowed the operator, Bengaluru International Airport Limited (BIAL), to collect revised fee for four months from April 16, 2019 to August 15, 2019, as per the ruling dated March 14, 2019. After August 15, 2019, the UDF will revert to earlier rates. While the increased UDF will increase the burden on passengers, it will provide relief for BIAL as the operator is in the midst of a Rs 130 billion capacity expansion plan that will cater to the demands of the growing aviation sector.
