The Union cabinet approved Phase I of the Patna metro rail project on February 13, 2019. The estimated cost of the project is Rs 133.65 billion. Phase I involves development of a 31.39 km long metro rail network in Patna city in Bihar. It will comprise two corridors. Corridor 1, the East-West corridor (Danapur Cantt-Mithapur), will cover a distance of 16.94 km and will have 11 stations. The 14.45 km Corridor 2 (Patna Junction-Patna ISBT), the North-South corridor, will have 12 stations. Work on Corridor 1 will be taken up on a priority basis under Phase I while Corridor 2 will be implemented as Phase II following the foundation laying of Phase I. The project will be implemented by a special purpose vehicle – Patna Metro Rail Corporation Limited. It is expected to be completed in five years from the date of commencement.
