Foundation stone laid for construction of Vykuntapuram barrage

The Andhra Pradesh government laid the foundation stone for construction of the Vykuntapuram barrage under the Amaravati reservoir project on February 13, 2019. The barrage is expected to entail an investment of Rs 21.69 billion including the land acquisition cost of Rs 7 million-Rs 8 billion. The reservoir project involves development of three reservoirs to cater to the drinking water needs of Amaravati. Water from the proposed Vykuntapuram barrage, to be constructed 23 km upstream from the Prakasam barrage, will be brought through gravity to these reservoirs. It is being implemented in the Neerukonda, Sakhamuru and Krishnayapalem villages of Andhra Pradesh.
