The central government has signed a Rs 24.7 billion loan agreement with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) for the Chennai Peripheral Ring Road project. The ring road, spanning a total length of 133.65 km, will link Ennore and Katupalli ports in the north with the East Coast Road at Mamallapuram. It will comprise a four-lane divided carriageway and a two-lane service road on both sides. The loan agreement with JICA also facilitates installation of intelligent transport systems to mitigate traffic congestion. The project is expected to be completed by 2023.
