Navayuga’s Polavaram irrigation project sets world record for largest continuous concrete pour

The Polavaram multi-purpose irrigation project, being developed by Navayuga Engineering Company Limited in Andhra Pradesh, has set a world record for the largest continuous concrete pour. It accomplished the feat by pouring 32,100 cubic metres of concrete in 24 hours during the construction of a dam.

The dam, expected to be completed by June 2019, will have a live storage capacity of 2,136 million cusecs and will be a reliable source of water supply to an aggregate population of 20 million. Once completed, the project will irrigate a total of 4.2 million acres ayacut in two phases and enhance water supply to all 13 districts of Andhra Pradesh, besides generating 960 MW of power. Recently, the project also secured a Central Board of Irrigation and Power award for speedy execution.
