New railway line to be constructed between Rameshwaram and Dhanushkodi

A new railway line of 17.2 km length will be constructed between Rameshwaram and Dhanushkodi at an estimated cost of Rs 2.08 billion. The earlier railway line on this route was destroyed in a cyclone in 1964. A new rail bridge using vertical lift span technology will also be constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 2.5 billion. The rail bridge is expected to take four to five years to be completed once construction commences.
