CERC issues discussion paper on redesigning the electricity market

The CERC has issued a discussion paper on “Market-Based Economic Dispatch of Electricity: Re-designing of Day-Ahead Market in India”. The commission has proposed a market-based economic dispatch model which entails the functioning of the electricity market on a day-ahead time horizon and the schedule and dispatch of all power generation on economic principles, subject to technical constraints. In a separate development, the CERC has notified the Open Access in Interstate Transmission (Fifth Amendment) Regulations, 2018. The amendment pertains to setting up of the National Open Access Registry as a common electronic platform for short-term open access.
