The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs has approved the construction of a new four-lane bridge across the Ganga river. The 5.63 km bridge will be constructed parallel to the existing Mahatma Gandhi Setu. It will be located 38 metres on the upstream side of Mahatma Gandhi Setu, along with approaches from km 0 to km 14.5 on NH-19 at Patna. Entailing an investment of Rs 29.26 billion, it is expected to be completed over a period of three and a half years. The scope of the project also includes the construction of four vehicular underpasses, one rail overbridge, a 1.58 metre viaduct, a 110 metre flyover, four minor bridges, five bus shelters and 13 road junctions.
