Anurag Sachan assumed his present role on August 4, 2018. He will hold this position till July 31, 2020, when he superannuates. Dedicated Freight Corridor Corporation of India Limited (DFCCIL) is a special purpose vehicle set up under the administrative control of the Ministry of Railways to undertake planning and development, mobilisation of financial resources, and construction, maintenance and operations of the dedicated freight corridors.
A civil engineer by profession, Sachan is an officer of the 1981 batch of the Indian Railway Services of Engineers. He has executed a large number of extremely challenging and technologically advanced railway infrastructure projects during his 35-year-long career with Indian Railways. Prior to his current assignment, Sachan served as the chief administrative officer of the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla rail link project of Northern Railway. One of the most iconic projects undertaken by Indian Railways so far, Sachan describes it as one of the most challenging roles of his career.
Within Indian Railways, he has played a wide gamut of roles. He has worked in various capacities in the Railway Board, and at the divisional and zonal levels. Some of the positions he held were executive director, land and amenities, Railway Board; chief engineer, construction, Western Railway, Mumbai; divisional railway manager, Northern Railway, Delhi; chief engineer, construction, Metropolitan Transport Project, Central Railway, Mumbai; and chief project manager, Western Railway, Ahmedabad.
In his role as divisional railway manager, Northern Railway, Delhi, he headed the largest division in Indian Railways, managing a huge manpower of over 40,000 personnel, with an annual earning of over Rs 70 billion. As divisional railway manager, he was instrumental in bringing key changes to the railway infrastructure in the national capital.
Sachan has many notable achievements to his credit. These include the execution of critical projects in the dense suburban section of Mumbai. He has also been closely associated with major capacity building infrastructure projects in the states of Gujarat and Maharashtra as well as in the remote parts of Odisha.
A keen sportsman himself, Sachan has also been an avid sports administrator. Under his leadership, many sportspersons have been given an opportunity to participate in national as well as international-level events and bring laurels to the country.
