Central government inaugurates Western Peripheral Expressway

The central government has inaugurated the Western Peripheral Expressway. The 135 km expressway has been constructed at a cost of Rs 64 billion. Around 3,846 acres of land was acquired for the project at a cost of Rs 27.88 billion. The original completion deadline was 2009 but the project was delayed on account of various issues. The stretch from Kundli to Manesar is over 83 km and has 14 major/minor bridges, 56 underpasses/ agricultural vehicle underpasses, seven intersections and seven toll plazas. The expressway will provide high speed connectivity between the northern and southern districts of Haryana, linking NH-1 (Panipat to Delhi), NH-8 (Jaipur-Gurugram-Delhi) and NH-10 (Hisar-Rohtak-Delhi).
