IR increases freight rates and container haulage charges

IR has increased freight rates by 8.75 per cent for major commodities including coal, iron and steel, iron ore, and raw materials for steel plants. Moreover, container haulage charges and the freight rates for other small goods have been raised by 5 per cent and 8.75 per cent respectively. The freight rates of foodgrains, flours, pulses, fertilisers, salt, sugar, cement and petroleum products (including diesel) have not seen a rise. The increase in rates is expected to generate additional revenue of Rs 33.44 billion and help enhance passenger amenities.
