JNPT mulls acquisition of three ports in Maharashtra

The Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT) is planning to acquire the Rewas, Vijaydurg and Dighi greenfield ports in order to expand port capacity and pursue port-led industrialisation. The port trust has already submitted bids for acquiring Dighi port, while it is in talks with RIL and Jupiter Capital to acquire the Rewas and Vijaydurg ports respectively. Of the three ports, Dighi port is already operational while the Rewas and Vijaydurg ports have been awarded to private players, but project development is stalled owing to several issues. JNPT is also developing Wadhwan (Dahanu) port to further expand capacity. At present, the project is facing environmental and political issues with respect to its implementation.
