The central government inaugurated Jharsuguda airport in Odisha on September 23, 2018 and operationalised commercial flights from Pakyong greenfield airport on October 4, 2018. Both the airports have been developed by the Airports Authority of India (AAI) as part of the Regional Connectivity Scheme that aims to provide connectivity to underserved and unserved areas of the country. Pakyong airport was developed at an investment of Rs 6 billion, while Jharsuguda airport involved an investment of Rs 2.1 billion.
