Assam government inaugurates ro-ro service to Majuli Island

The Assam government inaugurated a roll-on, roll-off (ro-ro) service to Majuli island on October 11, 2018. The ro-ro facility is expected to cut down the 423 km circuitous route by road that trucks take from Neamati to Majuliisland via the Tezpur road bridge, to only 12.7 km using the river route. The Inland Waterways Authority of India has procured a new vessel, MV Bhupen Hazarika, for this purpose at a cost of Rs 94.6 million.
