Jharkhand is likely to be the country’s first state to roll out a pilot direct benefit transfer (DBT) scheme for power subsidy. Under the DBT scheme, a subsidy amount against power consumption will be directly credited to consumers’ accounts. The Jharkhand State Electricity Regulatory Commission is planning to roll out the scheme with the Jamshedpur Utility and Services Company as it has a strong database of consumers. If successful, the scheme will be replicated in other parts of the states.
