India’s import dependency on crude oil has constantly increased and was reported at 82.8 per cent in 2017-18. LNG imports have also shown a continuous growth and were 45 per cent of the total natural gas consumption in 2017-18.

India has been adding refining capacity, both private and public, over the years. As on July 1, 2018, refining capacity stood at 247.6 million tonnes per annum.
