Government mulls replacing multiple operator fees with a unified charge

The government is planning to replace the multiple charges imposed on telecom companies with a single levy. It is currently examining whether existing levies such as the spectrum usage charge, licence fees and contribution towards the Universal Service Obligation Fund can be subsumed under a unified levy. However, any such recast will be revenue- neutral for the government.
