World Bank withdraws funding to Kakinada-Rajamahendravaram road project

The World Bank has withdrawn funding for the Rs 3.18 billion Kakinada-Rajamahendravaram road project in Andhra Pradesh on account of non-execution of work in the past five years. A four-lane, 16 km road had been planned between Kakinada and Samarlakot. Thereafter, a 22 metre wide road was planned for the rest of the distance up to Vemagiri. However, the contractor, Maitas Construction Company, did not find the norms of execution favourable, and therefore, the project was not executed.
