Reuse of Treated Waste Water Policy launched in Gujarat

The Gujarat government has formulated the Reuse of Treated Waste Water Policy for promoting the judicious use of freshwater resources in the state. The policy aims at creating a water grid, along the lines of a power grid, for the reuse of treated wastewater from urban areas. It aims to set up sewage treatment plants (STPs) in all the major towns and cities of Gujarat. The government has planned the construction of 161 STPs to treat wastewater and use it for non-drinking purposes. It is expected to double the existing water treatment capacity in the state from 2,600 million litres per day (mld) to around 5,000 mld in the next two years.
