L&T Construction has won a contract worth Rs 13.42 billion for the construction of a terminal building and other allied works under the Chennai Airport Modernisation Project, Phase II. The entire project will be executed in two phases at an investment of Rs 24.67 billion. Works including the development of a new integrated terminal, the expansion of existing terminals, and the construction of a common user cargo terminal and a multi level car park will be taken up under the project. Electromechanical works along with other civil and electrical works will be taken up later. Once completed, the airport’s passenger handling capacity is expected to increase from 14 million passengers per annum (mppa) to around 30 mppa.
