As of May 31, 2018, the Indian shipping industry had a fleet of 1,385 vessels of 12.69 million gross tonnage (GT) and 19.26 million DWT. Of the total vessels, 934 were coastal vessels with a tonnage of 1.48 million GT (1.62 million DWT) and 451 overseas vessels of 11.21 million GT (17.64 million DWT).
