Captain Sriram Ravi Chander brings to the table over two decades of experience in the maritime industry. He is currently associated with Jaigarh port, the flagship port of JSW Infrastructure, as its unit head and vice-president. The port is located in Ratnagiri district of Maharashtra on the western coast of the country. It has an installed capacity of 60 million tonnes (mt) and plans to increase it to 90 mt by 2020. In line with its ambitious plans to increase capacity, a liquefied natural gas terminal was inaugurated at the port in May 2018.
Captain Chander is a master mariner and in the past has been associated with APM Terminals, Pipavav, as senior vice-president. He later took over as director and chief executive officer of Visaka Container Terminal at Visakhapatnam port. He has also worked with the JM Baxi Group and Krishnapatnam port as an executive director. Besides, Captain Chander has had a short stint with the NDR Group as their country head for the ports and shipping sector.
His other professional affiliations include working as the chairman, tourism panel, Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), Andhra Pradesh (2015); member, port advisory committee, Visakhapatnam Port Trust (2014); elected state council member, CII, Andhra Pradesh (2011, 2012 and 2013); chairman, EXIM panel, CII, Andhra Pradesh (2012); member, Maritime Advisory Group to the Government of India (2011); advisory board member, GVP Engineering College (2010); chairman, CII, Visakhapatnam Zonal Council (2010); member, CII, National Committee for Logistics (2008), Shipping (2009) and Ports (2010); and consultant, disaster management, National Institute of Port Management (2005).
Captain Chander has studied nautical sciences at TS Rajendra and has completed the Maestro and Magnum executive management programmes of APM Terminals, Copenhagen, Denmark.
Captain Chander was the youngest master to take command in Maersk Line (2001). He handled the crisis management group for Maersk during the 9/11 attacks when he managed 450 ships in Copenhagen. He is the recipient of the Shipping Corporation of India Award in Academics and has also won the Sir Digby Beste Silver Medal in Academics. He holds the world record in the raven test conducted by the Danish Military System.
In his spare time, he likes to play sports, listen to Hindustani classical music and instrumental music, as well as travel with his family.
