The central government, the Madhya Pradesh government and the World Bank have signed a loan agreement worth $210 million for the Madhya Pradesh Rural Connectivity Project. The project involves the improvement of access to rural areas by upgrading around 10,000 km of rural roads from the existing gravel to bituminous surface while 510 km of new bituminous surface roads will also be constructed. The project is being implemented by the Madhya Pradesh Rural Road Development Authority under the Chief Minister’s Gram Sadak Yojana, at an estimated cost of Rs 32.77 billion.
