Tamil Nadu allows private companies to sell power directly to industrial consumers

The Tamil Nadu government has allowed private power companies in the state to sell over 1 MW of power directly to industrial consumers. The decision was taken owing to surplus power availability in the state, and this is expected to shoot up further soon when the windy season begins. The decision to restrict power companies from selling more than 1 MW power directly to consumers was taken in 2009 since the state was facing a power shortage at the time.
