Union cabinet approves relief measures for the telecom sector

The cabinet has approved several relief measures for debt-laden operators in a move to bring some respite to the stressed telecom sector. It has eased the spectrum holding limit from 25 per cent to 35 per cent in a service area or circle. Further, as a one-time measure, the cabinet has extended the payment tenor for auctioned airwaves from 12 years (including a two-year moratorium) to 16 years.
