VOC signs concession agreement for development of shallow draught berth

V.O. Chidambaranar Port (VOC) has signed a concession agreement for the development of a shallow draught berth for handling construction materials. Tuticorin-based Indian Port Terminals Private Limited will be developing the berth on a PPP basis at a cost of Rs 653.7 million. It has agreed to pay a revenue share of 36.01 per cent to VOC port. Indian Port Terminals had earlier formed a special purpose vehicle with VJR Port Terminals Private Limited to construct and operate the berth. The design capacity of the berth will be 2 million tonnes per annum (mtpa) and the berth will be capable of handling vessels of 25,000 deadweight tonnage. The berth will be 260 metres long and 30 metres wide with storage space of 2.5 hectares provided by the port.
