The MoR is planning to allow private companies to own, operate and execute railway lines in the country. This plan is currently at the conceptualisation stage with the Railway Board working on the feasibility of the proposal. As per the proposal, private companies can set up their own railway lines and can either run trains themselves or have third-party operators do so. In lieu, the companies would be required to pay a small charge to the MoR, while being allowed to operate both freight and passenger trains.
